What is the desert camp like?

A fixed camp among the dunes with tents, beds and shared or private facilities depending on the category chosen. Dinner and breakfast are served at the camp.

Is the camel ride compulsory?

No. The camp can be reached by 4x4 instead if you would rather not ride, or if anyone in the group finds it uncomfortable.

Merzouga is very hot from June to August and cold at night in winter. Spring and autumn are the comfortable seasons for this route.

Overview

One week is the shortest honest version of the whole country. It starts on the Atlantic, crosses the north to Fes, drops south through the Middle Atlas cedar forests and the Ziz valley to the dunes at Merzouga, and comes back over the High Atlas into Marrakech.

The desert night is spent in a camp among the Erg Chebbi dunes, reached by camel in the late afternoon. The return crosses the Todra and Dades gorges, the Valley of Roses and the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou before the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 m.

Day 01 :

Casablanca, Rabat and Chefchaouen

Collection in Casablanca, a morning in Rabat, then north into the Rif. Overnight in Chefchaouen.

Day 02 :

Chefchaouen to Volubilis, Meknes and Fes

The blue medina in the morning, then south to Volubilis and Moulay Idriss and on through Meknes to Fes. Overnight in a riad in the medina.

Day 03 :

Fes

A full guided day in Fes el-Bali: the madrasas, the tanneries, the souks and the Merinid tombs for the view. Overnight in Fes.

Day 04 :

Fes to Merzouga

South through Ifrane and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, over the Tizi n'Talghemt pass and down the Ziz valley. Camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset. Overnight in a desert camp.

Day 05 :

Merzouga to Dades

Sunrise over the dunes, then west through Rissani and Erfoud, the Todra gorge and its thousand-foot walls. Overnight in the Dades valley.

Day 06 :

Dades to Marrakech

The Valley of Roses, the palm groves of Skoura, Ouarzazate and the kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, then the Tizi n'Tichka pass over the High Atlas. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 07 :

Marrakech and return to Casablanca

A guided morning in the medina - the Koutoubia, the Bahia Palace, Jemaa el-Fna and the souks - then north to Casablanca for a drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
